In this week’s vlog we travel to Seward, Alaska to meet up with my cousin William for an unforgettable day on the coast. We start by stopping at a local spot called Weenies where we grab some classic Alaskan hot dogs and share plenty of laughs before heading to the water.
Once we reach the shoreline we join the crowd snagging silver salmon, a fishing method that is normally illegal but here it is used as a way for families to gather food. It was humbling and eye opening to see people fishing not for sport but for sustenance. Even so, we learned people really will not keep pink salmon, no matter how hungry they are.
After the catch we clean our salmon, learn about the incredible journey of these fish, and visit a fish ladder to capture amazing b roll for our upcoming History Channel episode. Seward is one of those places that reminds you how deeply people are connected to the land and the sea, and how nature continues to provide in the most raw and beautiful ways.
